Key West Police Department Officer Of The Month
Officer Gaby Abreau
Officer Abreau first started with the Kley West Police Department as a Key West High School Police Explorer. Upon graduation in 2015 she came to work for the Department as a records clerk. She moved up to the challenge of dispatcher, then, in 2017, she attended the law enforcement academy and became an officer.
Officer Abreau brings an outstanding level of professionalism and compassion to everything she does. A recent example of her efforts to comfort victims and solve a situation were exemplified recently when a man abandoned his elderly mother in a parking lot. The woman was emaciated and dehydrated. She was unable to walk or talk. Officer Abreau immediately found a way to communicate with the woman and identified the son. She took custody of the woman, who was unable to care for herself, and took her back to the station where she and her fellow officers ensured the woman had food and water and was cleaned up. Officer Abreau kept her safe and comfortable until she could be placed in a bed with the proper care. The son was arrested for neglect of an elderly disabled adult.
This is just one example of the ways in which Officer Abreau cares for her community. This mother of three embodies the core values – Respect, Integrity, Fairness, Service – of the Key West Police Department.
