Key West Police Department Officer Of The Month
Officer Joshua Hesse
Officer Joshua Hesse came to work for the Key West Police Department in January of 2023.
On January 20th he responded to a report that a subject was seen brandishing a firearm at a midtown housing complex. The report came from a Snapchat video that clearly showed the man carrying the gun, then pulling it and pointing it at the person taking the video.
Officer Hesse recognized the subject and, because the gun was pointed directly at the video, he could identify that the firearm was real and not an airsoft or pellet gun.
Officer Hesse quickly identified that the subject was a convicted felon and not legally allowed to possess a firearm. In fact, the subject had multiple arrests for firearm related offenses.
The subject was quickly located at a housing complex in Bahama Village, where he was taken into custody. The arrest will likely result in further charges.
Officer Hesse’s knowledge of the community and his perceptive skills resulted in a potentially dangerous individual being removed from the streets of Key West.
This is just one example of the ways in which Officer Hesse protects our community. He embodies the core values – Respect, Integrity, Fairness, Service – of the Key West Police Department.
